Sunburst EMS Enhances Inspection Capability with Mirtec AOI System
West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA - Sunburst EMS has boosted its inspection capabilities with the addition of a Mirtec MV-3L AOI system to its inspection technology lineup. The Mirtec MV-3L expands their current AOI capability by providing a 5 camera system including, a 2MB color camera that provides resolution necessary to inspect 01005 components. The MV-3L also features the revolutionary Intelli-Scan Laser System to precisely measure the Z-heig ht of a given area of interest. This advanced technology provides superior lifted lead detection for gull-wing devices, a four-point measurement capability for co-planarity testing of BGA and CSP devices as well as enhanced solder paste measurement capability. These technologies combined with the advanced lighting technologies incorporated in the MV-3L allow the system to measure both SMT and PTH components for presence, polarity, offset and component text as well as target acceptable and bad solder joints.
In making the announcement, Ed Monte, Director of Quality and Manufacturing Engineering, said “This machine essentially eliminates the need for manual inspection of solder joints accessible through normal visual inspection practices. Our customers have very demanding requirements, and the MV3-L will provide 100% inspection in the fraction of the time with expedited process feedback. At a minimum, we expect an immediate reduction in the escape of nonconformance’s as well as an increase in throughput, enhancing overall process performance and minimizing product “touch time”. The combination of improved throughput and increased quality will vastly improve Sunburst’s ability to provide high quality assemblies to our internal and external customers. “We are also constantly looking to ways to promote continuous improvement in our lean manufacturing processes and the Mirtec SPC Data collection software allows the user to easily track defects on inspected assemblies. This gives us a clear view into the manufacturing process thereby enabling us to achieve higher operating efficiencies and improved quality.” Monte added.
“The investment in the Mirtec AOI system is another indication that we are committed as an organization to providing the very best in quality to our demanding customers in the military, medical device and instrumentation marketplace” Andrew Chase, CEO, stated. “We are very excited to be adding this capability to our shop floor and look forward to the process feedback and continuous improvement activities that will be stimulated by the implementation of the MV3-L into our manufacturing process.”
